Easter celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, and is the biggest fasting time of the year in Ethiopia. Easter is called Holy Week in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Many people fast for three days, beginning on the Friday before Easter Sunday. Saturday is a large market day, where people obtain what they need to prepare for the Easter meal. During Easter, the local people gather for all-night prayer services to worship and celebrate.
